Governor Murphy has finally taken a position opposing a proposed fossil fuel project in New Jersey. On October 8, Murphy stated that he had had an “epiphany” and now opposes the proposed Meadowlands power plant in North Bergen.
The plant project had been on hold after the developer pulled its application for “technical changes” that would be included in a resubmitted permit application.
After Murphy’s announcement, the Mayor of North Bergen, who had been actively supporting the project, said that the town would “move on to finding an alternate use for the property”.
